Well, unfortunately Dom's '96 Plymouth Neon has met it's end. On the 29th, a mere 8 miles from home, the neon's engine seized. We have thus been in pursuit of a new used car to carry us from A to B.
We started our search at some local places. Most of them, mom and pop lots, with few cars looking interesting enough to test drive. We found ourself at Ford, trying on a Focus and an Avenger. Then at Chevy right next door, where we found it.... our dreams came true. There was a blue Cobalt just at 6,900 with 42,000 miles. We arrived the next day to check out the Cobalt again with a mechanically inclined friend of ours but it was mysteriously missing and the lot closed.
We have visited countless other lots, and found nothing to our liking. The vultures have stood all the while, in their glass doorways, their eyes feasting on us as we drive up, deciding how much to rip off. Today we met a real salesman. He had almost convinced us that a '93 Corolla with 100+miles, broken air vents, and what seamed to be significant accident damage to the rear end was a good buy at $3,000.
The illusive perfect used car still runs out there. Hopefully we will soon find it. Maybe we'll find it after perusing Carmax one more time, or a chance call to a friend of a friend of the dealer who's cars are too overly priced. Scarry I know.
What we have learned: Used car salesman are a different breed of human. Cars aren't cheap. Keep your credit high, your miles low, and oil in the engine... oops.
Jaimie...you are such a good writer!!! No wonder you do so well in school. I'm proud of you and Julie and your writing abilities. We definitely got that from Grandma Diana! Sorry you're having such a crappy time finding a car. That's a pretty stressful feat to overcome. Good luck!
